The SSP is a research-based therapy showing significant results in just five days in the following areas:
- Social and emotional difficulties
- Auditory sensitivities
- Anxiety & trauma related challenges
- Stressors that impact social engagement
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a five-day auditory intervention designed to reduce stress & auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement & resilience. This non-invasive intervention involves listening to music that has been processed specifically to retune the nervous system to introduce a sense of safety and the ability to socially engage. This allows the client to better interpret human speech, but also the emotional meaning of language. Once interpersonal interactions improve, spontaneous social behaviours and an enhanced ability to learn, self-regulate and engage are often seen.
By calming the physiological & emotional state, the door is opened for improved communication and more successful therapy. Emotional and physiological state are critical to how we approach the task at hand. So when a client has better state control, not only can they be more socially engaged, they are more open to therapy. Better state regulation improves therapeutic outcomes.
I see clients face to face for a minimum of the first session where I share information about how the protocol works and the client listens to the first hour of the protocol whilst I observe for and manage reactions to the music. From my observations, I can then recommend the best way to progress with the rest of the protocol (sometimes the full hour is not tolerated, and everyone is different).
Improvements can be seen in: Social & emotional difficulties, Auditory sensitivities, Anxiety & trauma related challenges, Inattention, Stressors that impact social engagement
