The Brain & Body Calm Academy has been created & is delivered by me, Kate Rigby.  I am a Neurodevelopmental Therapist, with expertise in working with emotional regulation. 


This effective program works with the root cause of anxiety or anger (and other linked emotions), leading to a more harmonious home and school life.


So, what is the root cause of anxiety & anger?

When we are anxious or angry, the nervous system is in charge - it is perceiving danger (where none might exist) and we go into fight or flight (or freeze)....and we can't control our response.  


The ability of our nervous system to assess danger effectively is dependent on our Defensive Reflexes: Fear Paralysis & Moro.


The root cause for anxiety & anger can be active Fear Paralysis & Moro reflexes.  


Active Defensive Reflexes can be linked to stress, illness or intoxication during pregnancy, a traumatic birth, or extreme physical and/or emotional stress after birth (at any age).

In the Brain & Body Calm Academy, we gradually work through simple, relaxing & enjoyable movements, which replicate the movements baby makes during pregnancy and the early weeks of life after birth - these movements help switch off the Defensive Fear Paralysis & Moro reflexes.


Switching off the Fear Paralysis & Moro Reflexes has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety and anger in clients and therefore has a massive positive impact for the child in terms of their emotional regulation & happiness; on family life; and enjoyment of school and extra curricular activities.


Academy Process

Movements to switch off the Defensive Reflexes

The Brain & Body Calm Academy is run online with small group sessions taking place once per month for 6 months.  I am available in-between sessions for support and guidance if needed.


The movements given & practiced in the online sessions should be practiced at home daily ideally, or minimum 5 times per week.  To begin with the movements will take only 1-2 minutes per day, building up to a maximum of 15 minutes per day.

One Academy intake opens up each month with sessions taking place at on the same day and at the same time in the same week of every month (excluding school holidays) for each intake.


The Academy is new with an introductory offer of £40 per month for 6 months.  


After the introductory period, the charge will increase to £55 per month.

If you aren't sure whether your child might have an active Fear Paralysis Reflex, here are some more indicators which might help you...in addition to anxiety, individuals with an active Fear Paralysis can also experience one or more of the following:

The Brain & Body Calm Academy is run with small group appointments with online sessions taking place once per month, and lasts 6 months.  I am available inbetween sessions for support and guidance if needed.


The Academy teaches you and your child about the nervous system’s role in emotional regulation and how to support your child’s emotional well-being through the nervous system. 


It helps you and your child understand what is causing them to be anxious or angry and provides therapy to get to the root cause of the anxiety or anger (and other linked emotions) by working with the nervous system.


There are 6 appointments within the 6 months


The group appointments will last around 1 hour and email support is available throughout the 6 months of the Academy (and phone calls where appropriate)


You will receive a detailed questionnaire for completion prior to beginning the Brain & Body Calm Acadmey covering the usual contact information, questions around pregnancy, birth and early child development and current challenges.  It is not a problem if you do not have all the information requested, if, for example, you are an adoptive or foster family, just provide as much as you are able to.


The movements given (and practiced) in the group appointments should then be practiced at home daily ideally (minimum 5 times per week).  A reminder of the movements is emailed through after the group appointment along with how long to practice them for each day.


To begin with the movements will take only 1-2 minutes per day, building up to a maximum of 15 minutes per day.


Bedtime is often a good time to do the movements as part of the bedtime routine, but time of day is not important so you can fit the movements around your daily routine.


The introductory cost is £40 per month, which will increase to £55 per month after the introductory period


As with any therapy, unfortunately results cannot be guaranteed because everyone is different and everyone responds differently to the therapy.  However, the vast majority of clients see change when working consistently with the movements, with some clients seeing quite significant change after the first 4-8 weeks and others it can taking longer to see change and at a slower pace.
